A New Term, a Fresh Start and Lots to Look Forward To
There’s something lovely about this time of year.
After weeks of summer holidays, lazy mornings, days out, camps, trips, cousins, friends and hopefully plenty of time doing absolutely nothing, September brings a whole new energy with it.
The school bags come back out, uniforms suddenly seem a little smaller than they did in June, and children start getting ready to see their friends again and find out what the new school year has in store.
And while going back to school can take a little getting used to, there’s also so much to look forward to.
New term, new beginnings
A new term is a fresh start, with new teachers, new classmates, new things to learn and, for some children, a completely new school. They’re coming back after a lovely summer break feeling that little bit older, a little more independent and ready for whatever comes next.
This is a brilliant time to try something new outside school.
Maybe this is the year they finally give gymnastics a go, join the football team, pick up a violin, try drama, dance, art, coding, swimming or martial arts. Maybe something they have discovered over the summer that they’d love to keep doing.
Finding something they really enjoy
Classes and activities are great for learning new skills, they’re a chance to make friends, build confidence and discover the things that make them happy. For some children that might be running around a pitch after school. For others, it could be an hour spent painting, playing music, dancing, building something, acting, cooking or learning a language. One of the nicest things about the start of a new term is that everyone is starting again. There are beginners everywhere, new groups forming and plenty of opportunities to join in.
A little something to look forward to
Once the school routine settles down, having a favourite class or activity during the week can be something children genuinely look forward to. It gives them a change of scene after school and a chance to spend time doing something simply because they enjoy it. So if there’s something they’ve been talking about doing, September is the perfect time to give it a go.
What will they try this term?
Sport, fitness, music, dance, drama, art, crafts, STEM, languages, there’s no end to the possibilities.
