Event Details
Kilkenny’s medieval streets will come alive on Halloween night when Macnas, the Galway company famous for its giant puppets and spectacular parades, brings a brand-new outdoor show to the city.
The Cailleach is a street spectacle inspired by the ancient hag of Irish myth, a figure linked with winter, storms and the turning of the year. It’s the centrepiece of Toil & Trouble, Kilkenny’s Halloween festival, which runs from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November as part of Fáilte Ireland’s Ireland Home of Halloween programme.
On the same day, Rothe House hosts free family events, so there’s plenty to fill a Halloween Saturday before the street show.
The Cailleach should suit families, groups of friends and anyone who loves big outdoor theatre. Wrap up warm, bring the gang in costume and find a good spot early.
