Athlone marks Halloween with a brand-new street procession on Saturday 31 October at 7pm, a fiery, theatrical celebration of Samhain, the ancient festival at the root of Halloween.
“When the Veil Thins” fills the town’s streets with giant puppets, masked performers, lanterns, music and firelight. It’s one of the headline events of Samhain in the Heartlands, a programme of more than 50 Halloween events across Longford and Westmeath. The programme runs from 2 October to 8 November as part of Ireland Home of Halloween.
This is a great outing for families, friends and anyone who loves outdoor spectacle. Dress up, bring a torch for the walk home and come along to see Athlone in a whole new light on Halloween night.
