About
Theatre made with, and by, people with intellectual disabilities, right in the heart of Galway.
Blue Teapot is an award-winning Irish theatre company that works with actors and learners with intellectual disabilities. Alongside its professional acting ensemble, it runs programmes that anyone with an interest in performing can join, from first-time workshops to formal training.
What’s on offer
Sparkle is for young people aged 12 to 17 who are curious about performing. Tutors focus on the basics: group work, concentration and playful improvisation, building creativity and social confidence along the way.
Bright Soul is for adults aged 18 and over. Running since the company began, it puts the fun of theatre and the joy of performing first, and welcomes adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities of all generations.
Both groups run in termly blocks of around ten weeks in spring and autumn, and can lead on to the Performing Arts School.
The Performing Arts School is a three-year programme for adults aged 18 and over with intellectual disabilities, leading to QQI awards at Levels 2 and 3. Learners study drama, music, design, craft, puppetry and more, with a life skills strand covering online safety, IT, literacy and wellbeing. Group sizes are kept small, and new learners are taken in each September after an informal meeting and an audition day.
